Rand And Her Randroids Would Root For Gates

Recapping Bill Gates’ Peter Keating Moment

I’ve always felt that Bill Gates is Peter Keating and Steve Jobs is Howard Roark, but now that Gates has proven himself to be Peter Keating, I feel little pleasure in pointing it out. The only regret I have about all of this is that I didn’t do a detailed comparison of those characters earlier.

On the first read I thought The Fountainhead was nothing more than elitist tripe, but what an amazing character study it’s turned out to be. It’s almost playing itself out in real life but with much bigger characters.

Trust me on this. I met her. And God help me, Them.

Apple Vs. Apple Settlement Coincidental?

February 5, 2007

In Steve Jobs: The Sixth Beatle? I pointed out that this week marks the anniversary of The Beatles first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show: February 9, 1964.

Do you think it’s just a nifty stroke of luck everything has been settled this week? I’m too cynical to believe in such Corporate Luck.

And now that the Super Bowl didn’t become the Apple Bowl, I’ll be watching another February Event that would be the perfect time to unleash a commercial for a True Widescreen Video iPod.

February 25th.

The “Super Bowl of Entertainment” — aka The Academy Awards.

Steve Jobs understands timing.

Crackpot Executive Beliefs 1

Executives in Hollywood are like cultists. They believe fervently in things that completely go against common sense and reason. They are like Scientologists, except that executive beliefs change faster than established religions. The religion of executives follows trends.

Every time someone comes along and breaks all the previous religious beliefs and is successful, a new crop of nutty executives displaces the last and tries to find the magic reasons that the latest new entertainment phenomena succeeded. Then for years and years they try to repeat a formula that wasn’t there, until a new rule breaker like me or Mike Judge or Matt Groening comes along to dash the previous religion to bits.
