King Is Dead — YouTube video
Rare Super 8 home movie footage of the making of the end scene from the 1976 version of King Kong.
I think it was in The New York Times. A full-page ad asking for jillions of people to show up for filming of the climactic scene of Dino De Laurentiis‘s King Kong remake. I heeded the call.
As it turned out, I was quoted, anonymously, in the magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland several months later when an article about the filming was published. Oh all right, I hear your cries of anguish; this is what I said that was quoted:
’twas Dino killed the beast!
Yeah, stupid, but memorable (like most things I say!).
Even if you don’t want anything to do with a giant ape, go see this footage for the rare views of the World Trade Center Twin Towers when everything in front of it was nothing but one huge open plaza.
Look closely and watch the cop squeeze Kong’s big thumb!
