If FSJ Says It, Then It Is So!

June 4, 2007

Glad to see Fred is staying busy

Well I guess the big scandal hasn’t tarnished Fred Anderson. He’s now going to be a director at Palm (see here) where his company, Elevation Partners, just made a huge investment. They’re bringing in Jon Rubinstein, who used to run our iPod division, to try and patch up things at Palm. Nobody’s saying it’s because of the iPhone. But it is. Trust me.

Scalzi Seems To Be A Bit Upset, He Do

June 4, 2007

Your Comment Makes No Sense to Me, So Here’s a Video

I swear to Holy Bleeding God that the next time I read a writer mewling out an “Oh noes!! The book market is changing! Weesa all gonna die!” message somewhere on the Internet, I’m going to track that writer down and beat them square on the head with a goddamn lead pipe. Honestly. Die already, then, you whiny, puffed-up, hand-wringing, passive, self-privileging sack of complaint and vomit.

I hear the monks are still plotting their revenge over the death of the Illuminated Manuscript too.

LifeDrive Notes: Video Flood!

June 4, 2007

So I’ve just ripped over 2GB(!) from YouTube.

Which I will all — eventually — convert to AVIs to play on my LifeDrive (some are to see now; some are, eh, eventually…).

But what the heck do people do with video?

Do they save both the FLV and the AVI versions?

Since FLV is the source, I shouldn’t delete it. Then, on the other hand, I don’t want to re-rip stuff so I should also save the AVIs.

And then… and then… if I get an iPhone, I’ll have to re-rip to H.264!!!

And save that version too!

Aaaaiiiieeee!

YouTube: The Final Option

June 4, 2007

Again and again the users of YouTube take my breath away!

A kick-ass killer clip from a killer kick-ass movie, The Final Option (UK title: Who Dares Wins).

Who Dares Wins – SAS Raid

A commando with the British Special Air Service (SAS) raids an American embassy where a radical political group has taken hostages. Some methods and tactics of the famed British anti-terrorist squad are shown.

(“Who Dares Wins” aka “The Final Option”)

I love this movie! So, of course!, it’s not available on DVD. I had to get an Asian import of it on DVD via ebay! Now, with this clip, I can have the wonderful raid on my LifeDrive!

This movie got panned like hell when it was released. Fuck the critics. It’s fantastic! I’m still looking for the Roy Budd soundtrack, dammit. It was once on LP. Never on CD.

A very sexy Judy Davis and a pre-Equalizer Edward Woodward!

This is yet one more example of how YouTube is killing P2P. I’d never find either this clip or the entire movie itself via P2P (as a legal owner of a DVD copy, I’d use the P2P copy to put on my LifeDrive since I currently lack DVD ripping capability).

Oh My God! What Did We Buy?!!?

June 4, 2007

Well, I hope that’s not the reaction of Elevation Partners, which just bought 25% of Palm. (No, I needn’t supply a link. The story is all over the damned place.)

Hello, John Rubinstein and Fred Anderson! Perhaps your first order of business should be to read this: Palm OS 5: The Wish List

Still many items outstanding there…

Another Prediction Comes True: Mac Widgets To iPhone

June 4, 2007

Update: Nope. Wrong. AJAX Web 2.0 apps aren’t widgets.

Fever Builds for iPhone (Anxiety Too)

A person briefed on Apple’s plans said that at its software developer conference this month, Apple intends to announce that it will make it possible for developers of small programs written for the Macintosh to easily convert them to run on the iPhone.

See OS X Widgetry And iPhone Possibilities, which I published back on February 4th!
