Thumbs down No F-ing Way

All that hype for an MP3 player? Break-thru digital device? The Reality Distiortion Field™ is starting to warp Steve’s mind if he thinks for one second that this thing is gonna take off.

Emphasis added by me.

I’d like to know how many iPods this guy has gone through since 2001…

… and how many Foleos they’ll use over at Engadget! (And Palm, you better make them pay full retail for them!)

Blog Notes: Brain Fever

September 11, 2007

Bad sleep, brain fever. Still working on Part Two. It won’t be posted until tomorrow.

In the meantime enjoy two pictures of the Foleo being presented by someone we all know:

I don’t know why, but looking at that Foleo picture makes me really want it.

Today’s WTF: Kidnap, Torture

September 11, 2007

Deputies Investigate Possible Hate Crime

Six Logan County residents are behind bars tonight charged with kidnapping, imprisoning, torturing and sexually assaulting a 23 year old Charleston woman. Deputies found the young African woman Saturday at the Big Creek home of 49 year old Frankie Brewster and her 24 year old son Bobby.

Investigators say the woman was sexually assaulted, stabbed four times in the leg and beaten. The criminal complaint said the woman was forced to eat rat and dog feces and drink from the toilet. She was also allegedly chocked, had her hair cut, and was doused with hot water. Her ankle was also allegedly cut while her attacker uttered a racial slur.

This is the home:

Is that little building a freakin outhouse?! Now come on, you just know that during a winter night no one’s bound to leave the “main” house to take a shit. Come morning, it’ll be: “Junior, go empty that bucket!”

There’s always a Junior or three in hellholes like that.

And these creatures wonder why they’re considered Flyover Country.

You Still Make Me Want To Bleed To Death

September 11, 2007

Some anti-Foleo eejit posted this somewhere (I will spare the eejit the notoriety and I will spare the site from having the eejit on it):

This is innovative, useful, connected, and priced right:
athena.jpg

You eejit! It’s just about $1,000! It has 1/2 the screen size of the Foleo and about 1/2 the number of screen pixels. It uses a MicroDrive, not Flash RAM. And the keyboard is utter shit. Let’s see how fast this flops and how fast it’s discontinued.

(Yes, I know there are people who have praised this and JK swears by it, but I saw it and was unconvinced. It’s Windows Mobile. That’s just slightly less traumatizing than Maemo to me.)

(Note to HTC: You may woo me if you wish with a demo unit. But if I skrag it, don’t whine!)

Foleo: The Beat Goes On…

September 11, 2007

Update: Dammit, I forget the link!

That recent Apple promo line fits, dammit.

The Foleo team is looking for a talented engineer to join the applications group and work on the email application.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record demonstrating innovation, strong collaboration among team members and excellent communication skills.

Must possess strong skills in the areas of application design, solid API design principles and have a strong understanding of customer and workflow issues.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• The candidate will work with a team of talented engineers to design and develop the email application.

• The candidate will be expected to work on all aspects of application development at both UI and lower levels.

Well, well. I’ve highlighted two important bits: this job posting was reposted today, and the mention of pop3 and imap.

So, Palm is still working on it. And does the pop3 and imap requirements mean this email app for the Foleo will work via WiFi rather than requiring syncing email via a Treo or other phone?

Move on.

Asus Eee: Increasing RAM Possible

September 11, 2007

Confirmed by ASUS: Eee PC RAM will be Replaceable

Oh yeah, I know the contrast with the below post about the Foleo will shake people up. That’s why I did it.

Are you paying attention, Palm?

It’s a brilliant move by Asus: “Hey, if people want more RAM, let them carry the cost but we’ll keep the price of the machine itself low low low…”

Update: Jaysus. I simply cannot believe the depths of the rotten marketing Palm did for the Foleo. Again, just today, I find out this:

Compact Flash card
In order to upgrade the size default user storage area, you can integrate a Compact Flash card into the system. The Foleo mobile companion supports Compact Flash cards up to 4.0GB in size.

From the Foleo Developer’s Guide. So, they had something similar in mind from the start. Too bad it maxed out at 4GB. Perhaps an OS upgrade could have increased that as CF prices fell… Yes, I know it’s not RAM, but it boosts the lousy 256MB user store in the default configuration that was to be sold in stores.
