Hey, NBC! Leak Journeyman NOW!

August 14, 2007

Which new fall series have you buzzing?

Definitely “Chuck” and “Pushing Daisies.” I’ve seen the pilots for both and “Chuck” was great, but “Pushing Daisies” was superb. After “Dead Like Me” and “Wonderfalls,” it may have finally elevated Bryan Fuller to the top of my list of favorite television writers. “Daisies” is just so unique, imaginative, sweet and clever. But “Chuck” is very good popcorn entertainment.

OK, the cat’s out of the bag. Pushing Daisies is the ABC show I alluded to in earlier posts. (No, I haven’t seen it. I’m still reserving time for Journeyman!)

Hell, this person even said something good about Chuck — which, as you will recall, has also been leaked.

It’s time to leak Journeyman, dammit!

Journeyman: Interesting Bits

August 13, 2007

NEW SHOWS: IS ‘JOURNEYMAN’ TV’S TAKE ON ‘TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE’?

In “Journeyman,” a San Francisco reporter, Dan Vasser, discovers he can travel back in time. It becomes clear that there’s a reason for this ability: He’s meant to change the past in certain ways involving a stranger. But he has trouble resisting the opportunity to change things in more personal ways, especially since, in the past, he’s able to see once again the fiance he believes died in a plane crash.

BY THE BOOK?
When the “Time Traveler’s Wife” comparisons first surfaced (first question!), creator Kevin Falls joked “I didn’t read ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’. Let’s just remember right now, I don’t want to start litigation, I did not read ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’.” Falls later said he read “50 pages” of the book when comparisons began to arise, and that he felt the two concepts were very different.

Dammit. I saw this book when it first came out and forgot to request it at the NYPL (just did!).

And in the Comments of the above is this bit:

My brother works in the film business and sent me a copy of the pilot…its absolutely incredible!!

[sarcasm on] Wonderful! [sarcasm off]

Why should NBC be leaking Journeyman like crazy? Look at this press release about public awareness of new TV series:

Top 10 New Shows on Awareness
Bionic Woman (NBC)
Cavemen (ABC)
Kid Nation (CBS)
Pushing Daisies (ABC)
Cane (CBS)
Next Great American Band (FOX)
K-Ville (FOX)
Journeyman (NBC)
The Big Bang Theory (CBS)
Reaper (CW)**
Gossip Girl (CW)**
Chuck (NBC)**

**indicates tie for 10th place

Out of ten, it’s only number eight! Even worse:

Top 5 New Shows on Intent to View (Will Definitely Watch)
Bionic Woman (NBC)
Cavemen (ABC)
Kitchen Nightmares (FOX)
Private Practice (ABC)
Cane (CBS)*
Pushing Daisies (ABC)*
K-Ville (FOX)*
Kid Nation (CBS)*
Reaper (CW)*
Next Great American Band (FOX)*
Journeyman (NBC)*
The Big Bang Theory (CBS)*

It then drops to number nine! Even worse:

Top 5 New Shows on Buzz
Cavemen (ABC)
Bionic Woman (NBC)
Kid Nation (CBS)
Pushing Daisies (ABC)
Kitchen Nightmares (FOX)*
Private Practice (ABC)*

*indicates tie for 5th place

It’s not even in the Top Five of Buzz!

How sick is that?

And guess what, NBC? One of those Top Five Buzz series? One of them is the pilot from ABC another broadcast network that’s been leaked onto the Net!

Personally, even though I’m delighted that my surname will soon be on everyone’s lips thanks to CBS — and that series is number five on two of the three listsI have absolutely no plans to watch it!

And this: Everyone keeps mentioning Quantum Leap in the same breath as Journeyman. Stop it already. It’s not. And I hated Quantum Leap and couldn’t watch a single episode.

Journeyman is the only series that interests me.

Leak the damn thing, NBC. Get the buzz started!

Nope, not leaked yet. I’ve looked. I do that just about the first thing when I get on the Net.

And, hey NBC, consider this:

Whether it is on purpose or not, these pre-airs that have surfaced on the net are serving a purpose. They are building a fan base and at the same time turning people off, which is actually a good thing.

Let’s use some simple numbers. 1,000,000 download the leaks. 500,000 like it and decide to become viewers of the show. 500,000 decide not to. — So the TV airing have gained 500k constant viewers instead of getting 1,000,000 on week one, and then the next week having that drop dramatically by 50%, which doesn’t look good.

Get what I mean?

That’s a post on a site devoted to a TV series whose pilot has already been leaked. (No, I won’t provide a link or other details. Except to say it’s a pilot for ABC — uh, a rival broadcast network!)

Hollywood: Settle!

August 1, 2007

Perversely, I must start out congratulating NBC. Journeyman has not been leaked anywhere. I’ve looked! I’ve looked hard. (Of course, if it was your intent that it should be, maybe those who looked at it decided to spare the rest of us!)

I wouldn’t have ordinarily done such an intense dig, but I really really want to see that series. And since it seems everydamnedthing else is being leaked, I went looking. I mean, really looking.

And, Hollywood, you Suits better shut your mouths, drop your pants, bend over, and give the Unions what they want.

Or you are dead.

Period.

For in my search, I have discovered that just about every damned thing that can be digitized or ripped has been digitized and ripped.

And I do mean EVERYTHING. (Except for Journeyman, dammit. Yet!)

So if a strike shuts you guys down, people are going to start doing the kind of searching I just did. And then guess what? They will download and watch all that stuff for free. And as your strike drags on and on and on, they will become accustomed to doing that.

And goodbye to your business.

Get smart. Settle.

And, oh, if you think it’s P2P that’s the threat, you guys really have your heads up your asses. P2P is dead. The pirates and dealers in warez have reconfigured the game. There is no more P2P delay. Stuff can now be downloaded even with my shitty Roadrunner connection faster than it takes to watch the stuff.

Settle. Or die.

PS: No, I didn’t download anydamnedthing. I wouldn’t watch that shit in a theatre and I won’t even watch it for free. And the TV stuff I wouldn’t even watch commercial-free. I’ve got books to read.

PPS: Leak Journeyman, goddammit. While there are people still interested in TV.

A Sad Day For Auntie Beeb

BBC Corrupted

Today the BBC made it official — they have been corrupted by Microsoft. With today’s launch of the iPlayer, the BBC Trust has failed in its most basic of duties and handed over to Microsoft sole control of the on-line distribution of BBC programming. From today, you will need to own a Microsoft operating system to view BBC programming on the web. This is akin to saying you must own a Sony TV set to watch BBC TV. And you must accept the Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) that the iPlayer imposes. You simply cannot be allowed to be in control of your computer according to the BBC.

Massive Leak of Pre-Air TV Shows: Piracy or Promotion?

Several TV shows from the upcoming TV season have leaked to BitTorrent over the past week. Weeds, Chuck, The Sarah Connor Chonicles, Pushing Daisies, Californication, Brotherhood and Dexter, to name a few. It makes you wonder, Is this the work of hardcore pirates or just a new form of promotion by the TV studios?

Bugger the shows that have been leaked. I’m not interested. Hey, Suits! Upload Journeyman! It’s the one new show I want to see.

P2P Is Dead. Really.

July 16, 2007

If you are sitting there waiting for videos to dribble dribble dribble into your computer with a P2P client, stop.

Part of the reason I’ve not been blogging much is that I’ve been investigating video sites other than YouTube.

I’m not going to name any sites.

Just let me say that what I’ve seen really does kill P2P.

And MPAA, remember this: You have no friends.

YouTube Is Suddenly So Yesterday

July 9, 2007

I’ve said P2P is dying, and it is. (Some people are trying to help it into an earlier grave.)

YouTube, I said was the new P2P.

Well, with its 10-minute upload limitations, YouTube is pretty much a frustrating experience to grab things of any length. Plus, Auntie Beeb seems to be keeping its eye on it.

Today there have been many searches for Doctor Who: The Sound of Drums episode that have led people to this blog.

All I will say is this: It’s out there. And not sliced into ten-minute chunks. And not via P2P.

Think outside the YouTube.

(No, don’t email to ask. You’re probably Auntie Beeb in disguise.)
